PAN Card New Rules: PAN card application rules are changing from today, April 1, 2026. As announced earlier by the Common Services Centres (CSC), an agency under the Ministry of Electronics & IT, people who will apply for a new PAN card will have to provide additional documents, other than an Aadhaar card.
The same will be the case for those willing to update details on the PAN card.
It simply means that the Aadhaar card, as a document, will alone not be enough for applying for a new PAN card or changing details on existing PAN cards.
Apart from that, new PAN card application forms have been introduced, starting from today. The new PAN card forms replace the old forms.

Before this, PAN card applicants were allowed to use an Aadhaar card as proof of identity. Aadhaar card also worked as proof of date of birth for PAN card applications.

In another related development, the name of a person on the PAN card will be as it is on his or her Aadhaar card.

It is the responsibility of PAN card holders to ensure that their details on the Aadhaar card are correct.
Also, linking your credit card with a PAN card has now become strict. Banks will not issue new credit cards to customers or those applying for credit cards without a valid PAN. Existing credit card holders must link their cards with PAN to avoid facing issues.
